Who am l?
I am a professional artist,
originally from the United
Kingdom but now living and
working in the USA. I paint
primarily in oils though I also
work in acrylics, graphite and
pen and ink.
Mood and emotion feature
strongly in all my work, for in
this my voice and spirit speak
together. Art is beauty, love,
yearning, and hope, but it is
also about the darker
aspects of our shared
human experience. In my
work I endeavor to capture
both the light and the dark,
the rough and the smooth.
For in life nothing is black or
white, just shades of gray.
Thank you for taking time to
view my site. I wish you a
pleasurable and thought-
provoking stay.

"Street Night" 14x18" Oil on Linen $450
A street at night in the rain, we all see this quite a lot of time. Here I wanted to
capture the surreal quality of the night in the urban environment. So I
deliberately arranged a setting with the lights from buildings offsetting those
of the street lamps and traffic lights. As we see so often in cities, the orange
glare of sodium lighting is present in the deep blue of the sky. I opted to
remove pedestrians and traffic so I could concentrate solely on the structural
form of the buildings and their interplay with natural elements like the trees,
bushes and of course, the rain.
You may sometimes see this kind of urban emptiness in the early hours of
morning.
