Who am l?
I am a professional artist,
originally from the United
Kingdom but now living and
working in the USA . I paint
primarily in oils though I also
work in acrylics, graphite and
pen and ink.

Mood and emotion feature
strongly in all my work, for in
this my voice and spirit speak
together. Art is beauty, love,
yearning, and hope, but it is
also about the darker
aspects of our shared
human experience.  In my
work I endeavor to capture
both the light and the dark,
the rough and the smooth.
For in life nothing is black or
white, just shades of gray.

Thank you for taking time to
view my site. I wish you a
pleasurable and thought-
provoking stay.

"Aquaduct" 12x16" Oil on Linen $450

This painting I must admit is a personal indulgence. I love aquaducts. They
are to me the epitomy of Roman ingenuity and engineering. On one level they
serve a functional service by carrying water to large cities from the mountains
(aqua = water, duct  = lead from/to). Then on a higher level they are
constructed with the eye of the artist, their very shape and form, repeating
arches upon arches are, at least to me, an almost sublime demonstration, in
stone, of motion and majesty.

The Romans have often been criticised for their lack of acumen in the
portrayal in the visual arts (if we compare them, say, with the Greeks). Yet in
architecture such as the aquaduct I am inclined to disagree.

My painting above is a tribute to the aquaducts common in the south of
France and Spain.
